Childhood brain injury can lead to lasting damage to the brain’s white matter pathways. This image shows the “cingulum bundle”, a pathway that runs from the back of the brain to the front. We found that, after a serious brain injury, children and adolescents continued to have damaged white matter (depicted in red/orange color) compared to healthy children, even a year or more after the injury occurred. Our advice: WEAR A HELMET!
