Research Interests

Question 1. Tell us about your research interests, especially as they pertain to neuroimaging. We recommend reviewing CCBBI-affiliated labs accepting ADNiR scholars, visiting their lab pages, and reading their papers to inform your answer. 

• Please tell us about your research interests and describe four faculty labs who you think are conducting research that most closely aligns with your own interests. Generally, the strongest applicants make a clear connection between their interests and ongoing research within at least one of the faculty labs. 

Question 2. Please list in order of preference the four faculty members with whom you would be interested in working.

Question 3. Please share any information that may be relevant to you conducting research, such as personal experiences, professional development opportunities, or any prior research experience that is relevant. If possible, please relate this information to the research domains you are interested in.

• Remember, all experience is good experience. We recommend that you think about the specific skills (abstract or practical) that you have gained through prior work, research, volunteering, or personal experiences. Feel free to describe how the skills that you have developed in non-research areas are transferrable to a research setting.

Goals

Question 4. Please outline the goals you hope to achieve during your 2 years of participation in the ADNiR program.

• Please do not just repeat what is listed on the ADNiR application website, but tell us what specific goals you want to accomplish during this two-year program. If this will be your first time working in a research lab, please tell us what kind of experience(s) you hope to gain, what you would like to learn, or what specific goals you hope to achieve. If this is not your first time working in a research lab, please tell us how this opportunity will build upon your prior research experiences and what specific goals you hope to achieve. Be specific (e.g., learn a coding language, work with research participants, learn to analyze data, etc.) and explain why you think these goals will be beneficial to you and your future academic or career plans.

Question 5. Please provide examples of some of your strengths that would facilitate your growth in this program.

• When determining your strengths, please try to think outside the box and really emphasize how this strength is unique to you. As you think outside the box, please understand that the skills and strengths that you have developed in other areas (like volunteer work, employment) can be useful in this program so do not be afraid to shine light on your unique abilities. We commonly see strengths like “creativity” and “perfectionism” that are broad and similar to other applicants’ responses. In the case of these more common strengths, please be able to demonstrate how you have manifested these traits. We want to ensure that you provide specific examples of your strengths and thoughtfully explain how these strengths would be beneficial to you in this program.

Question 6. Please describe how the ADNiR fellowship would help you overcome any adversity (financial or personal) that you are experiencing or may have experienced.

Question 7. What are your career goals after graduation?

• When responding to the question about your career goals, it is okay not to know what career you hope to pursue. However, it is helpful for the ADNiR review committee if you describe why this opportunity is relevant to your long term academic goals and future careers that you could be interested in pursuing. If you are unsure of what careers may be well-suited to your interests and goals, consider having a conversation with your favorite professor, scheduling a meeting with your academic advisor, or scheduling a meeting with your current research advisor to help you think about this question.
